L-1 Identity Solutions ID unusual options activity alert Many times you will hear me say "you only need one idea to make money". If you actually sit back and ponder that, it should hit home. Everyday I see about 100 stocks that are seeing "unusual" options activity that I define on my system. What I do is filter each one of them and look for the ones that are the real deal to my trading parameters. Yesterday, I wrote about my alert in St. Jude Medical Inc (STJ), which had members making 30% intraday!
Today, I picked up early action in L-1 Identity Solutions Inc (ID), which saw activity in the July 10 calls with a block of 5,000 contracts hitting the offer side of the market at $.25, with the bid/ask at $.15*$.25. The large block of contracts is unusual as is, which was 7x the the average daily traded. However, the real unusual part is that whoever was behind the trade didn't care about price because they could have tried to get in at $.20 (mid-market), they went right on the offer wanting to get in as fast as possible.
With that kind of action we usually see a push higher in implied volatility. When those blocks of calls hit, implied volatility pushed higher by 4.6% from yesterday's close. Once this hit my system I posted this in the OptionSIZZLE Elite chat room.
Few minutes later I posted this in my private twitter feed.
Prices shortly popped making a run higher and moving those calls more than a 100% intraday.
